Web3 now makes it possible for you to easily and inexpensively register a custom TLD. Below are step-by-step instructions on how you can register a custom Web3 Top-level domain and allow people to register Second-Level domains while you make money from every sale.
Step-by-Step Instructions
Buy the Top-Level domains you want to allow people to register. You can buy a Web3 domain here.
Once you own your domains (TLDs), ensure you have purchased “Royalties” for the domains if you want to sell SLDs with your TLD (you will receive 50% of sales). If you did not purchase “Royalties” when you bought your domains, don’t worry. You can add them—by logging in to your account on Freename. Roll over the person icon and select “TLD List.” then click on one of the domains and click “Manage.” On the left side, you will see “Royalties.” Click on that to allow you to add royalties to this domain. By purchasing “Royalties,” you will receive 50% royalties on all domain purchases. One of the best parts is that Freename handles all the processing of the purchased domains.
The next step is adding a crypto wallet to your account in Freename. They have instructions on doing this. You need to have a wallet in your account.
After you have a wallet, you can “mint” your domains. This lists your domain on the blockchain. To do this, navigate to “TLD List” and just hit the “Mint” button for the domain you want to set up. There are several options for which blockchain you want to mint it on. We suggest Polygon.
Then, you should turn on your reseller page for the domain. Return to “TLD List” and click “Manage” for each domain. Click on “Resell Page.” You can turn on your reseller page and add a custom icon here. Save the changes.
